8 Steps to Lemonade Stand Success

Lemonade stand success.

With high temperatures and intense summer humidity spread all across the US these days, everyone’s looking for a way to cool down and beat the heat.

There’s nothing more American than a good old fashioned lemonade stand, and we’ve got the tricks of the trade to make yours one that the whole neighborhood will enjoy.

Eight Steps to Lemonade Stand Success

There are a few things you should know if you’re going to open up a lemonade stand in your front yard.  Follow these tips for creating a successful lemonade stand, and you’re guaranteed to set up a lemonade stand that’s a total hit.

  1. Create your space.  You’re going to need a lemonade stand table with plenty of room for lemonade pitchers, cups filled with lemonade, a container for lemonade stand money, and probably some edible treats—cookies, brownies, or trail mix, for example—to sell alongside your lemonade.  You’ll need a table that isn’t too large and definitely not too small…you’ll need one that’s just right.
  2. Find a table cloth that is white or yellow in color to spread out on your table.  Make sure the table cloth is clean and unstained.
  3. Create a poster advertising your lemonade stand.  Use bright variations of lemonade-inspired colors, such as pinks and yellows.  Draw or cut out a few images of lemons to frame your “Lemonade Stand” advertisement.
  4. When purchasing your lemonade stand products, be sure to purchase products that are on sale or cheaper in price.  Choosing expensive products will make it harder for you to turn a profit, as you’ll need to purchase multiple lemonade mixes to get you through the day.  Use the same practice when purchasing the edible treats or baked goods that you will sell alongside your lemonade.
  5. Be sure to have fresh lemons to slice and drop into your lemonade pitchers, giving your pitchers that authentic-lemonade-stand look.
  6. Find a couple of coolers that you can fill with ice.  Use one for ice to put in the cups of your lemonade stand customers, and one to chill your pre-made lemonade pitchers.  Have one lemonade pitcher out for appearances, but serve your customers from the lemonade pitchers in the cooler.  Keeping a couple of pitchers chilled and out of the sun will make your lemonade product even more appealing!
  7. Have your lemonade and edible treats prices clearly marked on your lemonade stand, large enough and in a dark color that will be visible to pedestrians and cars that pass by!
  8. Use a lemonade stand money container that is decorated like your “Lemonade Stand” sign, showing your customers that you are excited about selling lemonade to them!

A Bonus Tip: Provide Different Types of Lemonade

If you aren’t aware, lemonades come in a variety of single lemonade flavors and lemonade flavor combinations, and everyone has a different preference.  Since most lemonade stands stick to the traditional yellow and pink lemonades, offering a few different lemonade flavors will make your lemonade stand unique.  Check out these lemonade flavors and varieties so that your lemonade stand can turn some heads:

  • Cherry Lemonade
  • Green Apple Lemonade
  • Red Raspberry Lemonade
  • Blackberry Lemonade
  • Peach Lemonade
  • Mango Lemonade
  • Strawberry Lemonade
  • Blue Raspberry Lemonade
  • Orange Lemonade
  • Tropical Punch Lemonade
  • Banana Lemonade
  • Blueberry Lemonade
  • Ginger Lemonade
  • Cherry-Lime Lemonade
  • Watermelon Lemonade

Don’t forget, if you decide to go non-traditional with your lemonade flavors, it’s important to offer at least one pitcher of the traditional pink or yellow lemonades.  This is so you don’t turn your traditional lemonade-loving customers away if they aren’t so daring and willing to try a non-traditional lemonade flavor!
