Backyard Baseball Parties

Backyard baseball party ideas.

The crack of the bat, the smell of freshly cut grass, the taste of plump hot dogs washed down with icy cold beer… we’ve missed you baseball season. And in your honor, we’re throwing you a preseason party.

That’s right. It’s finally March. Baseball teams from around the country are heading south for preseason games, and if you’re one of the unlucky ones stuck in the late winter, early spring weather, well then we think you deserve a little more celebration than anyone else.

Baseball parties are relatively simple. Think back to all your favorite moments at Wrigley Field or Fenway Park. Chances are you’re bringing back memories of mustardy hot dogs, soft pretzels, Cracker Jacks and peanuts. So, that’s exactly what you should provide at your party. You can dress it up with cocktail wieners, soft pretzel nuggets and a variety of sauces, but ultimately it is going to come down to the same idea: ballpark, or ballpark-inspired, food.

Drinks are just as simple, yet just as important as the food. Beer. It won’t cost $8.00 a cup, but it’ll taste just as good. In fact, it’ll taste so good paired with the ballpark foods that your guests will be singing take me out to the ball game in no time.

When you invite your guests, make sure you pick a date that coincides with your team’s spring training schedule. Both you and your guests will want to have some baseball to watch on TV to help solidify the at-the-park feeling, so drag the big screen outside and strategically place it on the deck. Or better yet, if you have a projector, project the game onto a big white screen outside so everyone can see it. If there are multiple games going on during your party and you have the resources, set up multiple screens or TVs to broadcast the other games as well.

Finally, set up lawn chairs, or ask your guests to bring their own chairs to the party location to set up around the screen. Encourage them to wear baseball hats and jerseys and to bring their team’s memorabilia to the party and anything else to help make you feel like you’re back in the stadium with the crowds.
