College Care Package!

College care package guide.

Hallelujah! The high school graduation parties are over and the college books have been bought.  You’ve waited 18 years for this: your child has finally moved out of the house and has gone on to bigger and better things.

There’s only one problem: you kind of, sort of miss them A LOT!  So why not send something fun and personal from home like a college care package to let your new college student know you’re thinking of them?

Care Package Ideas:

1.  Send Food.  Lots and lots of food.

  • There’s nothing a like homemade baked goods to take your mind off of the same old dining hall menu items week after week.  Having a homemade batch of cookies is sure to attract friends on any college dorm floor.
  • You can also send nonperishable food items in your care package such as ramen noodles, easy mac, candy, granola bars, coffee or tea.  It’s not always easy for a college student to get access to a grocery store where they can buy items they’re used to having back at home.

2.  Send Pictures

  • Recent pictures of the family or pets are a sure way to bring a smile.
  • Old baby pictures or funny family candids are another great way to bring home to your college student while they are away.

3.  Send Gift Certificates

  • Do some research and find out what pizza places, late night food or grocery stores are in your college student’s college town.
  • Check out local music venues websites and see if there is a fun concert coming to town.  Send a couple of concert tickets to your student for a fun study break.

4.  Send Fun Items

  • Fun patterned socks and underwear are always appreciated and will make for a good joke between floor mate
  • Send room decorations for whatever holiday or season is coming up.  This is a great way to brighten up a dull dorm room and remind your student of home.
  • Desk accessories, fun pens, pads of paper or picture frames are another great way to brighten up a room
  • A deck of cards, or fun board game will be appreciated for those random study breaks.

Care Package Tips:

1.  Pack everything in a storage container that your student can reuse.  Wrap the gifts up in a new towel, tee shirt, small bucket or other useful item.  Don’t be afraid to get creative!

2.  Make sure you send a personal note or a card with the gift.  Don’t forget to send some blank envelopes and stamps so your child can send you something back!
