- 1 box 15.25 oz yellow cake mix
- ½ cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup toffee bits such as Heath Bits o’ Brickle
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt optional, for garnish
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, and egg until a thick dough forms.
Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
Sprinkle chocolate chips and toffee bits evenly over the dough layer.
Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top.
Crumble the remaining dough over the top in small pieces, leaving some areas exposed.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
Cool completely before cutting into squares. For clean slices, refrigerate for 15 minutes before slicing.
Enjoy! Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Make-Ahead Option: Store bars in an airtight container at room temp for 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
- Customization Ideas: Try chocolate, spice, or vanilla cake mix for a twist! Add chopped nuts, peanut butter chips, or caramel drizzle for extra flavor.
- Healthier Swaps: Use a gluten-free cake mix or swap half the butter for unsweetened applesauce to lighten it up.
